This Privacy Policy explains how Widget lab: widgets & icons ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use it. The app is a home-screen customization tool (widgets and icons). It is privacy-friendly: most data it uses stays on your device, and we do not sell your personal information.

In short: No account is required. Your contacts, calendar, photos, step data and media information are used only on your device to display widgets and are never uploaded to us or sold. The only data that leaves your device is: your location (sent to a weather provider to show weather), and standard advertising, analytics and crash-diagnostic data used to run and improve the app.

1. Information the app uses

Fitness and step data

If you use the Fitness or Steps widgets, the app reads your step count from your device's built-in step-counter sensor (using the Activity Recognition permission). Calories and activity estimates are calculated on the device from your steps and activity. This information is used only on your device to display counts and progress; it is never transmitted to our servers, used for advertising, sold, or shared. The app does not use Android Health Connect.

Location

If you use the Weather widget and grant location permission, the app reads your device location (approximate and precise) and sends your coordinates to the weather data provider Open‑Meteo (api.open-meteo.com) to retrieve the forecast for your area. Coordinates are used only to fetch weather; we do not store your location on our own servers, build a location history, or use it for advertising. If you deny location, the app uses a default/approximate location. See Open‑Meteo's terms at open-meteo.com/en/terms.

Contacts

If you use the Contacts widget and grant contacts permission, the app reads the contacts you choose so it can display them in the widget. Contact data is used only on your device and is never uploaded, sold, or shared.

Calendar

If you use the Calendar widget and grant calendar permission, the app reads your calendar events to display them. Calendar data is used only on your device and is never uploaded, sold, or shared.

Photos and media

If you use the Photo widget, you select an image through the system photo picker. The selected image is used only on your device to display in the widget and is never uploaded, sold, or shared.

Media / notification access

If you enable the Music / Now Playing widget, the app uses Notification Access to read the currently playing media notification (track title and artist) so it can show what's playing. This is processed only on your device and is never uploaded, sold, or shared.

Advertising, analytics and diagnostics

To provide the app for free and keep it working reliably, we use the following Google services, which collect limited data:

ServiceDataPurpose
Google AdMobAdvertising ID and device/app informationTo show ads (personalized or non‑personalized)
Google Firebase AnalyticsDevice identifiers, app usage/interaction eventsAnalytics to understand and improve app usage
Firebase CrashlyticsCrash logs, diagnostics, device stateTo detect and fix crashes and bugs

These services are provided by Google and governed by Google's Privacy Policy. For AdMob, see How Google uses data from ads.

2. How your information is used

  • To display the widgets, icons and screens you choose (weather, fitness/steps, contacts, calendar, photos, music, etc.).
  • To fetch weather for your location and other content you view.
  • To show ads that support the free app.
  • To analyze usage and diagnose crashes so we can improve stability and features.

3. Data sharing and selling

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your contacts, calendar, photo, step or media data with third parties. The only data shared with third parties is: your coordinates with the weather provider (to return weather), and advertising/analytics/diagnostic data with Google (to run ads, analytics and crash reporting as described above).

4. Data security

All data transmitted off the device (weather requests, ads, analytics and crash reporting) is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Contacts, calendar, photo, step and media data are kept in the app's private on-device storage.

5. Data retention and deletion

On-device data (including cached steps, widget settings and presets) remains on your device until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app, which removes it. You also control the original data at its source — your device location settings, Contacts and Calendar. To opt out of personalized ads, you can reset or limit your Advertising ID in your device settings. For any request relating to your data, contact us below.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
